All on 4

All on 4

If you have lost all your teeth in a jaw or need to have them all replaced we can now remove failing teeth, place implants and provide you with a fixed bridge all in the same day. The good news, if you need to replace your teeth with dental implants, is that you do not need as many implants as new teeth.

“All-On-4” is a treatment concept that has evolved over the past 20 years involving the placement of four, and in some cases more, Titanium implants into either an upper or lower jaw and then fixing a whole set of teeth on them.

As the name suggests, All On 4 implants use just four implants, which can support a full set of new teeth in the form of a fixed bridge. All-On-4 implants do not require bone grafts and is suitable for patients with a lot less bone than is necessary in standard dental implant protocols.

In the All on 4 protocol, implants are placed and angled in such a way that they can support several teeth, withstanding the forces created by biting and chewing. Special implants are also available for patients with extreme bone loss.

What happens during an “All-On-4” procedure?

Day of the Procedure

Most procedures follow a similar series of steps:

  1. Arrive at the practice in the morning, accompanied by an escort who can take you home at the end of the day.
  2. Discuss and sign the necessary paperwork and settle into the treatment chair.
  3. Your surgeon will administer IV sedation, which will take effect in a few minutes.
  4. Your surgeon will place the implants. This usually takes about two hours.
  5. In the afternoon your surgeon will fit a fixed provisional bridge.
  6. Finally, you will have the chance to look at your new smile in the mirror.

After the Procedure

After 2-3 weeks, our surgeon will check your implants for proper healing and talk to you about any issues you are having with fit or function.

After 3-4 months, once the implants have fully healed, you will receive your permanent implant bridge.

Sedation

There may be occasions where the dentist advises IV sedation for implant treatment.

IV sedation is a safe, effective way to make you feel completely relaxed. Your worries will be eliminated but you remain conscious and able to answer questions, so the dentist can treat you more effectively.

Benefits

  • Makes you feel completely relaxed and anxiety-free.
  • Rapid onset of the calming effects.
  • Level of sedation can be tailored to suit your needs.
  • Can help you forget the treatment process.

Treatment steps

  • Your general health will be carefully assessed, including your blood pressure and oxygen levels at your initial appointment.
  • During your treatment appointment, a very thin needle is inserted into a vein in the back of your hand or arm leaving a soft plastic tube through which the sedative will be gradually delivered. You will be closely monitored throughout the treatment process.
  • Additional medication will be required to relieve any discomfort as sedation only calms you and does not provide pain relief. However, this will be administered once you are suitably relaxed.
  • Once relaxed, the dentist will carry out your treatment in a calm and gentle manner.

After treatment

The effects of sedation will take a while to wear off, so you will need someone to take you home and keep an eye on you.

At Jenkins Dental Practice we only offer sedation for certain implant cases only by Mark Vardon. If you wish to discuss this treatment option further please contact the practice.
